A Collabortive Vision
Our success is nested in the revival of the prophetic encouragement of a 'waqf' coupled with establishing a 'bimaristan' whose services will not disregard the non-Muslim community.
Our consortium is three institutions: the Khalid foundation on the 1st floor to fund the project, the Aziz foundation on the 2nd floor to fund the bimaristan, and a masjid on the third floor.
A 'waqf' is an endowment established for charitable purchases. A number of charitable waqf's were established in the time of the Prophet SAW, the first of them being seven orchards dedicated to the Prophet SAW by a Jewish ally named Mukhayriq. The orchards were dedicated to charitable causes.
A 'bimaristan' is commonly understood, especially in English literature, to refer to hospitals established in the Islamic world. A bimaristan is a holistic healing center, dwindling, but not disregarding, focus on the physical aspect of treatment that is common today.
